About
Founded in 1865, West of Scotland FC has always been about offering rugby opportunities to anyone keen to pick up the ball. Over 160 years later, that tradition continues - with rugby for all ages, abilities, and ambitions. There’s truly something for everyone at West.
Our 1st XV compete in National League Division 3, with a clear ambition for promotion and a strong culture of hard work and progress.
Alongside them, our 2nd XV play in the inter City Reserve league, providing a space for players pushing towards 1st XV rugby or simply looking for a competitive run-out with friends each week.
We also partnership with Glasgow Uni, where we run a GU West team in the West Region Reserves league 2.
Head coach, Trevor Carmichael, has been the head coach of the Men’s Senior section since 2023, since he joined training numbers have drastically increased to 50-60 every Tuesday and Thursday.
Trevor has a long history with the club. As a child he watched his dad Sandy Carmichael pull on the Red and Yellow, he also did pull on some other jerseys like Scotland and the British and Irish Lions. He went onto play at west in his playing career and now watched both his kids play in the 1XV men and 1XV women sides which I’m sure bring a tear to his eye.
Trevor is supported by our backline coaches Craig Brown and Graham Porterfield (Porty). Craig joined to be assistant coach to Trevor in 2023 focusing on making our backs one of the best back lines in the league. Porty joined at the start of 26/27 season helping Trev and Craig with the massive numbers at training and leading the 2XV with Gordon Dunford.
We also run "Old Man Touch", a social, non-contact session perfect for anyone stepping back from full-contact rugby. It runs every Thursday at 8:30pm — all welcome!
