Women's Team
About
The West Women’s Senior Team was first set up the 1990s and ran for about a decade before a hiatus. The team restarted in the late 2010s and has since gone from strength to strength, winning the West League in 2019/20 and the National Shield in 2023.
West of Scotland Women compete in National 1 League one step below the Premiership, and compete for the Sarah Beaney Cup. We’re a competitive and ambitious squad with a strong focus on development, enjoyment, and team spirit.
Whether you’re brand new to the game or returning after time away, there’s a place for you at West. We welcome players of all abilities and backgrounds — no experience needed, just a willingness to get stuck in.

Why Join West?
Whether you’re brand new to the game or returning after time away, there’s a place for you at West. We welcome players of all abilities and backgrounds — no experience needed, just a willingness to get stuck in.
We’re proud to have had Rachel McLachlan, now a Scotland international, begin her rugby journey right here at West. We’re also proud to have developed players like Ellie Williamson and Alex Love, who have both gone on to represent the Glasgow Warriors Women.
Our head coach is Gavin McGreish, he coordinates our defence and the forward pack. Gavin joined us in 2023 as an assistant coach, before becoming our head coach in 2025. Gavin has 15 years of experience coaching women’s and youth rugby.
Gavin is supported by our attack and backline coach Christophe Rainot, who joined West in the 2026/27 preseason. Christophe has 17 years of experience coaching women’s, men’s and youth rugby.
Our captain for the 2026/27 season is Jade Scott, and our vice-captain is Rosie Broadhurst. This player leadership team has a wealth of experience and passion for the club and are on hand to support the team.
Training takes place every Monday and Thursday, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, on our floodlit all-weather pitch at Burnbrae. We also have a weekly strength and conditioning session at the club gym on Mondays from 6pm to 7pm. Sessions are fun, supportive, and designed to help every player grow their game and enjoy their rugby.
Whether you are keen to play competitively or just looking to train and improve your fitness you are welcome down at West. Want to join us? Just get in touch — we’d love to welcome you to the team.
