A Community Amateur Sports Club

Mini Rugby at West is the first rung on the rugby ladder for tomorrow's rugby stars, and gives boys (and girls!) between the ages of 5 and 12 the opportunity to learn about the game's basics.

The Minis are part of one of the biggest and most successful Junior sections in Scotland with over 240 playing members. We travel to many of the major mini rugby tournaments and festivals across the country and host our own tournament early in the season which runs from mid-August to mid-May.

P1s, 2s & 3s have lots of fun at training and play Tag Rugby which is entirely non-contact. The coaches are there to give children a good grounding in running, passing and catching skills and they ensure everyone gets involved as part of the team.

Contact rugby starts at P4 and continues up to P7 as players hone their ball handling and technical abilities through weekly training sessions on Sunday mornings and fixtures against other clubs both at home and away.

Further information on Mini Rugby at West can be obtained from Paul Rice, Vice President Junior Rugby, on 07949 485760.

Rugby is a great game for kids of all shapes and sizes; however the off-field aspect is just as important as playing. There is plenty of opportunity for people to be as involved as they want to be in the club but what is most enjoyable is seeing kids form life-long friendships with their team mates. To strengthen this the P4s to P7s go on Tour every May and this is a high point for many players.

West welcomes parental involvement either coaching or as a volunteer. Should you be interested in finding out more about Junior coaching at West, please contact our Vice President - Junior Rugby, Paul Rice, by emailing him at paul.rice@westofscotlandfc.co.uk. Paul will be able to let you know the various details involved in coaching at West, as well as having an informal chat in general.  Our coaches are all SRU Rugby Ready qualified as well as holding the UKCC1 and UKCC2 rugby coaching qualifications, which we help and support our coaches to acheive.

Should you wish to volunteer to help with other aspects of West's year group squads, such as catering or admin but other than coaching, please contact your year group Lead Coach.

Don't worry if your child has never played rugby before we'd be delighted to see you!
